Helathier Homemade Chick-Fil-A Sauce

I have one question. If you do not like Chick-Fil-A, what is wrong with you?

Everything from their chicken sandwhiches to the french-fries to the chocolate milkshakes are SO delicious. SO unhealthy but SO delicious! I will admit that on the occasion that I go to Chick-Fil-A, I can feel the guilt creeping up about what I’m about to eat. I could order a salad but what’s the point of treating yourself to order a salad? I don't like feeling guilty about what I eat, it isn't healthy mentally. I like to find or make healthier options to foods I enjoy to receive the nutritional benefit and to get rid of the guilt.

If you are a person that loves their signature sauce, like many people I know, look at the ingredients list on the tiny packet. Try and pronounce the ingredients. If you don’t recognize an ingredient, your body won’t either.

You may recognize one of the ingredients, Xanthium Gum, because it seems to be in everything that isn’t a whole food. But do you know what Xanthium gum is, what is does to the body or how it’s made? Xanthium gum has been shown to cause migraines, skin irritations, intestinal gas, diarrhea and bloating. Yum. This is one of many terrible ingredients in the signature sauce that can harm the body. Natural Flavors is also an ingredient that is in everything and comes from beaver anal glands. I am not kidding.

I made chicken one night and wanted a tasty but not unhealthy dipping sauce. I looked at the signature sauce ingredients (thought, “Ridiculous”) and decided to create my own, healthier, Chick-Fil-A sauce that I could feel good about consuming. See the recipe below.

Homemade Chik-Fil-A Sauce

Ingredients

1 tbs vegan butter

2 tbs barbecue sauce

2 tbs ketchup

2 tbs mustard

1 tbs Dijon mustard

1 tbs maple syrup

2 tsp lemon juice

¼ tsp pepper

¼ tsp salt

Directions

1. Place the butter in a small pot on the stove at medium heat

2. Once butter is melted, place all other ingredients in the pot and stir for 1 minute

3. Put stove on low and simmer until sauce is at desired thickeness

4. Serve immediately

I had leftover sauce for my lunch the next day and it was just as tasty. Try this recipe and never feel guilty about your chicken sandwich dipping sauce again!
