As you read the title you may have been thinking to yourself, “What hippie crap is she writing about now?” At least, that was my first thought when I was introduced to essential oils about 7 years ago.
I remember telling my mom that I had a headache and felt a cold coming on. My whole life, up until this point, she had given me medicine to try and help me feel better. I sat down at the kitchen table and all of a sudden she had a small bottle of what smelled like peppermint that she was rubbing across my forehead, behind my ears and neck. I was so confused and very small-minded about the oils she put on me. And then, I noticed that I felt better. Since then, I have loved essential oils and all of the different smells and purposes.
What are essential oils?
Essential oils are compounds extracted from plants. The plant’s scent is taken and cold-pressed into an essential oil.
Benefits of essential oils.
Essential oils may help with stress, anxiety, headaches, migraines, improve sleep, and reduce inflammation.
*I am not a doctor and am not prescribing that essential oils will heal or “fix” something that you are dealing with.
How are essential oils used?
Essential oils are mostly used through Aromatherapy. Essential oils are NOT meant to be swallowed. They can also be absorbed through your skin, which is how I use them when I’m sick.
Something that I think is very fascinating is that the inhaling of essential oils triggers your limbic system. The limbic system is profoundly involved in making memories which explains why when you smell a certain scent you remember another time that you smelt that specific scent.
What are the most common essential oils used?
There are a lot of brands that put extra chemicals into their essential oils making them not as safe to inhale or absorb. However, I have found an incredible company called “ADORAtherapy” that guarantees its products are handmade, organic, vegan, cruelty-free, and that they use recycled materials. Theor products do not contain any alcohol, synthetic fragrance, parabens, or phthalates. ADORAtherapy is all about adoring ourselves through different scents. Below is a short video of the company. Right now my favorite product is the Serene Room Boost Spray which is pictured below. The scent is peaceful and soothing from the lavender, bergamot, and chamomile.
If you are a person that loves feng shui and different scents to boost your mood I highly recommend checking out “ADORAtherapy”. You can shop their products by mood, scents, or collections.
